Q: Why with the “PLUS,” Morris?
A. Well, it goes back to our mission: To give all cats the good life. Emphasis on all.
Some of us have special health needs, such as urinary tract issues or the need for more protein in our diets. To meet those, we’re adding (+) some specially formulated products to meet the health and nutritional needs of even more cats.
In my humble opinion, we’ve whipped up some of the best cat foods for urinary tract health and high-protein dietary needs.
Q: Cat food for urinary tract health—does that really work?
A: If you’ve ever had a urinary tract issue, you have my sympathy. They’re incredibly unpleasant and often downright painful.
One way to avoid feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD) that can cause everything from blood in our pee to bladder stones is by lowering the pH of your cat’s urine with specially formulated cat food.
Beyond cat food for urinary tract health, other steps you can take include making sure fresh water is readily available, so we stay hydrated, cleaning our litter boxes often and limiting the stress in our lives. We’re all chasing that good life.
Q: Why the focus on high protein cat food, Morris?
A: Well, the answer starts with our ancestors. We’re descended from fierce hunters whose diet included high amounts of protein. And while we may no longer be hunting our meals in the literal sense, we’re still obligate carnivores, which means we need protein-forward meats to get all the nutrients we need to thrive.
Our 9Lives PLUS High Protein puts that key nutrient front and center. With 35% protein, our high-protein cat food is formulated to support lean muscles and healthy energy for adult cats.
Q: Do you take these products as a supplement or full meal?
A: Both PLUS formulations provide the complete and balanced nutrition adult cats like me need to thrive. They’re a full meal … and then some.
Q: Morris, what do these new PLUS products taste like?
A: I thought you’d never ask!
As the only feline member of the 9Lives PLUS team, taste testing is where my teammates really lean on my expertise. “Morris, what food do cats like the most?” they ask. I’m a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to the many fine flavors of dry and wet cat foods we create. But I digress.
Let’s start with 9Lives Urinary Tract Health. Bringing together the distinct flavors of tuna and egg, cats like me look forward to the variety of flavors they get with this dry cat food.
Our 9Lives PLUS High Protein blend brings together the flavors of chicken and ocean fish—a true surf and turf feast that makes mealtime a treat.
The tastiness of these 9Lives PLUS products isn’t something we take lightly. After all, they’ll do your cat little good if they’re left untouched in the pet bowl.
Q: When will these products hit the shelves?
A: You can expect to start seeing 9Lives PLUS Urinary Tract Health on shelves in fall of 2025, and 9Lives PLUS High Protein early in 2026. You might notice the packaging looks a little different. That’s because we’re also rolling out a refresh for all our 9Lives dry and wet cat food offerings.
Q: What else can you tell us about the refresh, Morris?
A: We’re not recreating the wheel. We’re making a few tweaks here and there—like brightening our packaging, clarifying the (many) perks of our cat food and introducing my mini me, Li’l Mo, on our Kitten items.
As for me, I’m not going anywhere. You’ll still find me front and center, making sure everything we do helps advance our big-picture goal of helping all cats live the good life.
